Artist Zhang Meichun, working within the framework of the Xu Bing Art Satellite Residency Program, intervenes in the domain of contemporary informational sovereignty through the dual extremities of physical philosophy. The Relativistic Arbitrage Protocol operates as a physical experiment in “entropy reduction.” By erasing digital remains, it seeks to exchange them for a fragment of pure relativistic time, time unpolluted by secular consensus. Handmade Illusion, as its symmetrical pole, unfolds as a logical game of “consensus entropy increase.” Through large-scale semantic injection, it deliberately induces overfitting within the algorithm’s deep logical space. One project clears the past from the physical dimension, while the other fabricates a future at the level of logic. Together, they construct an aesthetic cartography within the universe of the Xu Bing Art Satellite, defined by the transformation between virtual and real, and by the legislation of logic itself.
Handmade Illusion began as a “monument to digital labor.” Within the alienation workshop, one hundred thousand false annotations of empty images drove a neural network into overfitting, generating a fabricated “pseudo-satellite coordinate system.” This logic now extends into a space-bound act of logical deterritorialization.

This is a logical hack into the algorithm, and a micro-level reclamation of algorithmic sovereignty by the public. Each reluctant click becomes a grain of semantic dust injected into the satellite’s neural network, forcing the system to dream within a vacuum of computation. The offline exhibition space reconstructs a “co-conspirator workstation,” replicating the interface of digital labor annotation.
